10 Places You Need To Study Abroad

There are many awesome experiences that you will live through in college that will be a part of you for the rest of your life. One way to really make your college experience memorable and diverse is to study abroad.

Studying abroad gives you a glimpse into a new culture, allows you to make some friends you never would have met, lets you experience a new way of living and going to school, and of course, gives your taste buds a plethora of new options to try out. If you can fit study abroad into your four years, definitely take the opportunity.

It will give you memories for a lifetime, and will expand your life in so many ways. So when considering studying abroad, which program should you choose? Sometimes it depends on your major, and other times you might just want to go for fun, so there will be lots of things to look into, and you also want to check with your college to see when you are allowed to study abroad (at UC Santa Cruz you can’t go your senior year).

Below I have listed 10 study abroad programs that would be super fun and enriching, so check them out and see if any of them are calling out your name!

1) Forum-Nexus study abroad

This is an experience for a person who loves change and wants to get a wide view of Europe.

With the multi-country summer program, you will visit eight cities in one month, some of which could be: England: London; France: Chamonix, Paris; Greece: Athens, Rhodes, Santorini; Italy: Capri, Florence, Milan, Rome, Venice; Multi-Country Programs; Netherlands: Amsterdam; Spain: Barcelona, Ibiza, Madrid; Switzerland: Geneva, Lugano; Turkey: Istanbul. How awesome is that!

You will have to check with them for the program you want and which cities they will be seeing at that time. This is open to all majors which adds another plus, and you can earn up to seven credits. This is pretty fast paced, but will allow you to experience so much of Europe and enhance your resume. What’s great about it being in the summer is you don’t have to miss much at your actual college, and can be back before the next quarter/semester begins.

2) CCIS study abroad in Germany

If you want a program that will really immerse you in German culture and help you learn the language, then you might want to check out this program. It is an intensive language program that is offered at any level, and will be taught by native German speakers that know what they are doing to help you lean quickly and efficiently.

This specific program would take place in the city of Heidelberg, at the International House Heidelberg-Collegium Palatinum. Students will have instruction in German from the very first day, so you can bet by the end you will have a decent knowledge of the language.

3) CYA (College Year In Athens)

If you choose this program, you can go for a whole year or pick one semester to go to Greece. This program is great because it is taught in English, and there are tons of fun classes you can choose from to take to make your abroad experience even more enriching.

They focus on the history and civilization of Greece, so you’ll be able to delve into the culture. Students will live in apartments in central Athens, and are located around many fun things like farmer’s markets and tourist stops.

4) API study abroad in England

API will help you select one of several universities in either Leeds or London where you will be able to study abroad. They cater to all types of majors and can even help you get an international internship, which would look spectacular on a resume.

They can help you with housing and getting ready to go abroad, and will help you learn about all the fun places you’ll have to visit before your stay is over.

5) AIFS study abroad in Brazil

This program will be 5 weeks long, where you can spend your summer in beautiful Sao Paulo and earn up to 8 credits. This is another program where students can take advantage of either learning or strengthening their foreign language skills with this programs unique Portuguese curriculum. There is tons of scholarship funding available and lots of perks like included tours and insurance. It is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

6) IES study abroad in Australia

This is a summer program where you get to have some fun down under and study in Sydney, Australia. If you pick this program, you enroll in two courses and earn up to six credits.

This will be an action packed adventure where you take classes, go to cultural events, visit city landmarks, visit the famous Opera House in Sydney, and so much more. There will also be field trips so you can enjoy being an Aussie with all your new friends! And yes, you are bound to see/pet a kangaroo.

7) Experiment in International Living Japan

This is a program that will totally submerse you in the Japanese culture. You’ll be learning the language, tasting the food, and traveling all across Japan to different points of interest.

You will get to live with a host family, which will help with your language skills, and will get up to 32 hours of language instruction that will be taught at different levels to suit your needs. You might even be able to participate in traditional festivals or meditate in a beautiful garden.

8) CEA study in Spain

This program lets you choose exactly what is right for you and your major. You will engage with the culture, get guest lectures, take tours, and you can also take a course with Spanish students to brush up on your Spanish.

There are different choices of housing that you can choose based on location and budget. You’ll have fun exploring the city’s capital, playing on the beaches, and soaking up the culture.

9) ISA study abroad in Fiji

Fiji is not just the place where delicious water comes from, it could be your next living destination. You can use this program for any semester, and while you are studying you will also be snorkeling, surfing, jamming at music festivals and much more. It will feel so much like a vacation that you might even forget you are there for school.

10) SAI Programs study in France

If you love saying “oui oui” and have a soft spot for delicious bread and wine, it might be time to say hello to the French. This program also lets you go during any semester of your choosing, and the courses are taught in English, but you can choose to take French elective courses.

You will be studying at the American University of Paris (AUP) where you will learn much of the culture through the curriculum and the outside world. There are over 200 courses to choose from, and you will get to meet lots of international students and will create so many memories.
